"There's no place like home."
-Dorothy Gale
Just got back from the wonderful Land of Oz and now i'm (literally) at
home. What i'm trying to say is,i just finished watching the 1939
adventure/fantasy classic The Wizard of Oz starring Judy Garland,Frank
Morgan,Ray Bolger,Bert Lahr,Jack Haley and Margaret Hamilton directed by
Victor Fleming. And boy! it is great movie. The film tells the tale of a
young girl,Dorothy who just feels neglected and unappreciated at her
home,Kansas.While trying to run away,she
gets caught up in a tornado and gets swept away to a colorful land
named Oz.But for her to get back home, she must seek The Wizard who can
help her get back home.Upon embarking on her quest to see The Wizard, she
gains and meets new friends, respectively The Scarecrow,The Tin Man and
The Cowardly Lion whom each have a problem and by the help of Dorothy
will all be fixed by the said Wizard. However,on their journey, they get
interrupted by The Wicked Witch Of The West who wants to capture Dorothy
to get the Ruby Slippers which might have magical powers buried in
it.The performances in the film were great specially Judy
Garland's,Margaret Hamilton's and Frank Morgan's.And all of the cast
throughout, they did a very marvelous job.The visuals in this movie may
not amaze some people and won't like it and just laugh but i
myself, really appreciate it.The set,the props and everything else for
the director's great effort. Also, the visuals surely amazed audiences in
the time this was released.Mainly because they have seen nothing like
this before.Scoring wasn't that much famous in it's time but,it is not
absent but instead called Music, therefore,The Wizard Of Oz is also a
musical. The music in this one was part whimsy but cheering, and some it
are somber. But still, most of it are really fun and feel-good making the
film more better. The characters were very lovable from the lead,Dorothy
to the 3 great supporting characters The Tin Man,The Scarecrow and The
Cowardly Lion.Honorable mentions to The Wizard and the cute Munchkins of
Munchkinland.Hell,Even the Wicked Witch of the West is lovable as a
villain too for her wickedness and insanity. The Wizard Of Oz is a great
classic in both the adventure, fantasy and even the musical genre. But
other than that,it is also a really great film itself. One more main
thing to tell, the film just isn't a great classic film or a piece of art
but it is also an excellent morality tale that tells strong messages
for us to listen. Thus,The Wizard Of Oz is truly brilliant, vivid and
very, very lovable.Plus,it sticks to strong themes. There really is no
place like home.Last word: This film made me love classics even
more.Both old and modern.
The Wizard Of Oz gets 8.9 over 10 stars (No jokes and sarcasm)
