The Shining Review

"Heeeere's Johnny!"
-Jack Torrance

Whew! Just came back from the Overlook Hotel and i had a really bad vacation.I entered a room with gushing blood,i saw two creepy twin girls and I was chased down by some freakin' psycho running around with an axe.Good thing i outran him.Just kidding.Just watched Stanley Kubrick's epic horror film The Shining starring Jack Nicholson,Shelley Duvall,Danny Lloyd together with Scatman Crothers,Barry Nelson and Philip Stone. The film tells the tale of Jack Torrance and his family who heads out to an isolated hotel for the winter where an evil and spiritual presence influences the father (Nicholson) into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from the past and future. The Shining had very scary scares and some were disturbing, even. But all of the horror scenes were crafted beautifully with violence, terror and creepiness.Specially, the iconic scene with Jack Nicholson in it.The only performances i liked from the movie was of course,Jack Nicholson's and Danny Lloyd's who played Jack's son,Danny.Jack Nicholson was well-casted for this as he delivered great insanity to his respective character really well.He was just terrifically amazing.Danny Lloyd's performance on the kid Danny was brilliant. He was downright creepy and even lovable. The redrum scene which had Danny was creepy. Thus,Danny Lloyd's performance on his character was done well.I'm not gonna mention Shelley Duvall's performance in this because i thought that her acting was generic, sorry to say.The score/music played throughout the film was scary itself. It was just so,scary.Nothing more to say.But the 2 main things i loved in this was the cinematography and Stanley Kubrick's twisted direction. The cinematography was astounding and stunning, the way this film was shot was very different. If you don't believe me,check out the scene in which Danny is strolling around the hotel with his tricycle.I just don't know if you won't be amazed.Kubrick's direction was brilliant and very very top-notch.Mr.Kubrick's direction on this film was great. He was able to throw great dialogue and unusual horror scenes. He is the type of director which is able to give something new.The Shining is a great classic horror movie that will give you chills, thrills, and well, kills that will send chills down to your spine.Even Jack Nicholson's performance will creep you out.

The Shining shines with 8.7 stars over 10
